Since 2005, SWAP has contributed to increased access of life saving health products. It started with training vulnerable women (widows, women living with HIV) to do door to door social marketing of water and hygiene products while providing education through social behavioural change communication. This improved health and provided revenue for these women, who were now useful members of society and became self-reliant.

 

This program has scaled up to engage community health promoters, who receive some basic training from the Ministry of Health and who visit up to 100 households in their village. While they provide primary health care services, they sell these products at affordable rates and with the profit they are able to provide basic needs for their families including education for their children.

These products include point of use water treatment, ceramic water filters, mosquito nets, soaps, menstrual hygiene products, clean energy cook stoves, solar lamps, improved toilets, nutritional supplements among others. These products are as well sold to humanitarian partners during flood or disease outbreaks. Some are donated to families in need or during emergencies.

 

We are seeking funding in order to:

• Restock supplies of the various health products

• Back packs for community health volunteers to carry the products

• Produce Marketing and communication materials, brochures

• Transport for restocking the various remote sites and monitoring

• Training of the community health promoters
